Roof pitch is a measure of the steepness or slope of a roof, and is expressed as the ratio rise to run, or more simply, it tells you how high the roof rises over a certain distance. The most common way to find out the roof pitch is by using the “rise over run” format. For example, a roof pitch of 4:12 means that the roof rises by 4 inches for 12 inches horizontally.
